Whatever we experience, stays between us!
The Vamvakou Experience Festival returns on the first weekend of July, 04–05/07, to prove that roots are the most natural network still connecting everything. Whatever takes root deeply always finds a way to bloom again. Just like Vamvakou itself, which this summer reminds us that the “old” never truly goes out of style. It’s an experience lived in the here and now: alive, analog, and unexpectedly relevant. Here, the past isn’t romanticized. It becomes raw material for the present. Just as the village itself is being reborn through the Vamvakou Revival initiative, implemented by the non-profit organization Vamvakou Revival, with the exclusive support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
Vamvakou Experience Festival 2026 is a stone transformed into a design object in the hands of traditional stonemasons from Lagadia. It is trachanopotata, a humble local dish born out of necessity (and perhaps… a mistake), turned into a collective ritual and, yes, something more interesting than any viral recipe. It is a handmade musical instrument crafted from saridi (discarded materials) rediscovering its sound, reminding us that recycling was once a way of life long before it became a trend. It is the traditional nyfopazaro (“bride market”), a kind of early social network returning in digital form to remind us that before Tinder, there was the algorithm of the village promenade.
And of course, it is also those songs that carry something deeply collective within them: melodies from the past, never forgotten, recognizable from their very first notes. That’s why this year’s festival highlight, the major concert by Kaiti Garbi and Dionysis Schoinas (04/07), feels almost like a natural extension of the Vamvakou experience; a place where we become communicating vessels and where everyone can experience “that something” they long for. Like an evening when the village school turns into a giant open-air summer singalong, with people of all ages singing lyrics and memories from years gone by — memories that, no matter how much time passes, always return and are never truly lost.
At Vamvakou Experience Festival, nothing remains static. Sports activities set the body in motion, environmental and experiential learning experiences reconnect people with the most reliable network of all, nature. Artistic and craft workshops transform materials into stories, while performances and live acts fill the space with rhythm, voice, and energy.
What can we say? We’ve missed it.
More coming soon…
