6th Vamvakou Mountain Run – 07/06/2026

On Sunday, June 7, 2026, you can experience a running race that invites you to discover the rhythm of the mountain, adapting it to your own pace.
You run with your heart in your mouth to keep up with obligations, chasing moments that slip away as if they never existed.
And then comes June and the Vamvakou Mountain Run… Finally, you run to enjoy it!

On the trails of the Laconic Parnonas, among fir and pine trees, alongside gorges and open horizons, and near the revitalized village of Vamvakou, on Sunday, June 7, 2026, the clock will be marking the time, but not just for performance, at the 6th edition of a mountain running race that is both a sporting challenge and an escape from the pace of city life. For everyone.

The event is organized by the non-profit organization Vamvakou Revival and is part of the Vamvakou Revival initiative, implemented with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). The goal is to highlight the region’s natural beauty and encourage participation in outdoor activities. Runner and coach Ioannis Dimopoulos is overseeing the organization and providing technical guidance for the race.

With participants traveling from Athens and the Kalamata, the Vamvakou Mountain Run brings runners of all levels to the starting line. Starting from Vamvakou Square at 950 meters, with the route climbing up to 1,900 meters, the mountain challenges you but also rewards you through three courses: 29, 19, and 7 kilometers. The finish line brings you back to the village, where medals, awards, and prize drawings bring the race to a close. Additionally, the race is part of the International Trail Running Association, so you can track your performance if you wish and earn points for your next challenges.

And because runners may run alone, but in Vamvakou it’s the crews that make history, the village offers plenty of options to share with those accompanying them: bike rides, a pasta party, activities for children, and a discussion with ultra-distance runner Asimina Inglezou and runner and artist Giorgos Dimoulas, who will inspire both those who run and those who are still thinking about it.

Because at the Vamvakou Mountain Run, you participate not only with your legs, but with your soul!
And whatever you ultimately choose — to run, to watch, or to relax — Vamvakou awaits you to experience moments that will stay with you forever.

Registration is now open and will remain so until May 31!
Watch our memories from 2025!

Safety measures

Full medical support will be provided to offer first aid throughout the Run. In any case, all runners are participating at their own risk, in accordance with the Participation Terms. Participants are recommended to proceed with medical exams before the race to ensure they are in good physical condition.

The safety of runners and spectators is of utmost importance to the organizing committee. The organiser is supervising the routes, to the extent that this is possible, in order to avoid any unforeseen incident and provides medical assistance to athletes who might need it. The organiser can modify the routes in case of risks for the safety of the athletes. They might also delay the start of the race or even cancel or postpone the race due to bad weather or other reason of force majeure.

Every year, we are collaborating with the Hellenic Police, the Road Traffic Police, the Hellenic Fire Service and the Red Cross of Sparti, the rescue team Etoimoklis and the Hellenic Rescue Team in order to ensure safety throughout our events.

We would like to thank the Municipality of Sparti, the Forestry Service of Sparti, the Hellenic Police and the Hellenic Fire-Fighting Service.
