In May, do travel and make it to Vamvakou!

Nature, culture, creative and experiential activities on the mountain

“In May, don’t plant; don’t get married; don’t work; yet, do travel and make it to Vamvakou!” This month, the Learning & Participation Department of the Greek National Opera with the programme “Metamorphoses” and two school programmes by Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) will get to Mount Parnon, while movie screenings in collaboration with the Athens International Children’s Film Festival and a unique star night will accompany us until the beginning of summer. Vamvakou Revival is proposing original activities and events on the mountain, within the framework of the initiative for the revival of Vamvakou with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

Metamorphoses by the Learning & Participation Department of the Greek National Opera

Vamvakou Revival is continuing this year as well its collaboration with the Learning & Participation Department of the Greek National Opera, with the latter returning to the village on May, 6 and 7 with the educational programme “Metamorphoses”, which is addressed to primary school students and aims at guiding them around the magic world of opera through original artistic activities that can stimulate their imagination and creative viewpoint. The programme is designed and realised by Rafi Music Theatre Company.

The school programmes of Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) in Vamvakou

The school programmes of Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) get to Vamvakou once more, on May, 13 and 14, bringing along “Culture in green” and the “Stavros Niarchos Park”. Through a thematic tour, children aged 12 to 15 get acquainted with the particular architecture and function of green spaces and, in work groups, design and propose “green events” that fit the area. The little visitors, aged 6 to 12, come into contact with the colours, scents and textures of nature, get familiar with different plant species while they comprehend the planting process of a park, focus on Mediterranean aromatic plants and discover their properties! The programme is designed and realised by Kaliopi Koutroumbi.

Educational programmes at the school of the village

The environment, tradition, culture and experiential activities find their place at the altitude of 900 meters! We are celebrating the 1st of May along with the “little nature explorers” and we come into contact with the colours of spring and the sounds of nature by discovering their artistic aspect. The third weekend of May, we get acquainted with “our life in the village, once upon a time” by making our own herbarium and spending time with leaf philosophy. The last weekend of the month, through theatre play, movement and improvisation, we explore the magic world of trees and find out “if your tree reaches the sky”. And, of course, we have fun and play till we drop in a school full of board games, Lego bricks, books, painting, sports, movie screenings, gaming and, definitely, Virtual Reality activities.

Star gazing, movie screenings and music in the village

Have you ever observed the night sky over Mount Parnon? On May, 27, the lights go off and we are inviting you to a sky mapping activity for children and grown-ups to study the stars over Vamvakou along with Anastasia-Fiori Metalinou.
The film screenings for children are continuing this month too, through the collaboration of Vamvakou Revival with the Athens International Children’s Film Festival. Children will have the chance to enter “A marvelous world” (ages 4 to 6), through “Imagination in everyday life” (ages 7 to 9), and, thus be able, while “Growing up” (ages 10 to 12), to dream of “A better future” (ages 13 to 15)!
One more of our favourite music evening will take place (26/05) at Voureiko café-restaurant, with the music band Grammes enchanting us with melodies by composers of the “past” that meet the “present” and take us to the “future”.

Holding hands with nature, we move towards summertime in the village!
