In March, better be in the village and not in the city!

In March, better be in the village and not in the city!

With a travel mood and activities for all in Vamvakou, Lakonia

The first month of spring has arrived, nature is blossoming, the mountain is changing and Vamvakou is waiting for you. Life in the village, books, technology, Virtual Reality, stories, life notions and values are being combined in activities for all, educational programmes for children, technology and art workshops, movie screenings and theatre plays, which are realised by Vamvakou Revival within the framework of the initiative for the revival of Vamvakou with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

Educational programmes at the school of the village

Folk art, tradition, culture and hands-on activities find their place at an altitude of 900 meters! On the first weekend of the month, we go “Tangled!” (04/03) by creating unique artworks inspired by our tradition with the use of yarns, threads, needles and natural materials; we also come up with our own imprints on clay (04/03) by discovering the art of pottery. The third weekend of March, the programme “Once upon a time, our life in the village” (18/03) introduces us to customs and traditions by revealing the Lent calendar as practiced in the past. A new friend arrives at the Library (19/03) and, guided by books, we travel all together to the magic land of solidarity, inclusion and love through an educational programme by the National Library of Greece. The last weekend of March is dedicated to play (25/03) and is full of games, Lego bricks, books, painting, sports, film screenings, gaming and, of course, Virtual Reality activities, as well as life notions and values through an interactive educational programme, with children turning into “little activists” (26/03) to find solutions for a better world!

Technology on the mountain

Virtual Reality, gaming, robotics and three-dimensional printing continue this month as well to be at the focus of V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF). During the second weekend of March, the successful labs of Robotics (11/03) and 3D printing (12/03) bring new challenges to children! Every weekend, kids and grown-ups can navigate in three-dimensional worlds via Oculus Quest and enjoy endless gaming at the PC Lab of the school.

Theatre, cinema & music in the village

The popular theatre group TOPI, under the direction of Dimitris Plionis, is inspired by Grimms’ Fairy Tales and puts together the new play “Grimm and Grimm”, full of emotions and messages for children, to be staged in Vamvakou on Saturday March, 18.

The film screenings for children are continuing over the weekends of March too, through the collaboration of Vamvakou Revival with the Athens International Children’s Film Festival. Children will have the chance to enter “A marvelous world” (ages 4 to 6), through “Imagination in everyday life” (ages 7 to 9), and, thus be able, while “Growing up” (ages 10 to 12), to dream of “A better future” (ages 13 to 15).

Our favourite music evenings at Voureiko café-restaurant will keep us company this month too, as the music band Grammes will be singing that “a woman can” (04/03) and enchanting us with a special on Tsitsanis (18/03) and rebetiko songs (25/03).

So, put a March bracelet on to avoid get sunburnt and join us on the mountains!
