Festive December in Vamvakou, Lakonia

Lights, Christmas ornaments, music and magical moments for everyone at the heart of Mount Parnon!

Christmas is here again and all roads lead to Vamvakou! The burning fireplaces, the smells of sweets coming out of wood-fired ovens, the paved alleys, the festive delicacies, the coziness of the period, the snow-capped mountain peaks, the shimmering lights, the laughter and joy… all make up Christmas in the village! Join us this year too to create together special memories at an altitude of 900 meters, through original activities and thematic experiences that will take us all the way to the first days of 2024 and are realised by Vamvakou Revival within the framework of the Vamvakou Revival initiative, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

Switching on the Christmas lights in Vamvakou, Lakonia with Foivos Delivorias and much more!

The date for the established Christmas get-together in Vamvakou is set this year for December, 2! The brightest period of the year will start with an interactive play, Christmas creations, face painting and realistic caricatures, stilt walkers and many more surprises. Shortly before switching on the Christmas lights in the village, an impressive light show and the members of the Intercultural Choir of the Greek National Opera (GNO) will take us on a music ride with no boundaries, while the festive afternoon will close with Foivos Delivorias LIVE coming to the village from the parallel universe of reality, along with his brave crew of musicians, for a special concert in the square.

Bright Christmas on Mount Parnon

A music show for those feeling like children and “the quiltmaker’s journey” (23/12), as well as a puppet-making workshop with Mrs. Claus (24/12) will take us all the way to a melodic Christmas feast in Voureiko café-restaurant (25/12). The day after Christmas (26/12), a puppet show will reveal the secret Christmas recipe of the great-great-great-grandmother.

Celebrating the New Year in the village

Just before the end of the year, we will say goodbye to 2023 with goblins and children laughing their hearts out (30/12) during a themed chemistry workshop in the festive V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF). The New Year’s Eve carols of Vamvakou (31/12) will be revived with laughter, melodies and notes flooding the village, while the first table of the year will be set on New Year’s Day at Voureiko (01/01) with a high-standard folk and rebetiko music programme.

The Lights and Enlightening in Vamvakou

On the Celebration of the Lights (06/01), we will explore the light phenomenon and play with it during a physics workshop in V.Lab, while on 07/01, we will discover the herbs of Mount Parnon and learn about their unique attributes.

A festive scent with activities, music and coziness throughout December

Throughout the month, thematic activities and educational programmes will complement the weekends of the village visitors in a creative way with Christmas handicrafts, the Christmas box (09/12), festive pocket books (10/12), Christmas embroideries (16/12) and festive games and quizzes (17/12). The festive setting will be completed with a melodic music evening for all tastes (16/12), as well as a nostalgic special on the leading lyricist Lefteris Papadopoulos (23/12) at Voureiko café-restaurant.

Christmas is on again! Off to the village, off to Vamvakou this year too!
