With theater, STEAM, gastronomy, wellness and activities for all in nature
May is here, spring is almost over, and we are getting ready for an unforgettable summer! Temperatures get higher, nature is reborn and never stops offering us opportunities for carefree excursions and creative moments in the mountains. Hiking and cycling, massage and wellness sessions, theater and culinary workshops, recreational and STEAM programs for young and old, make up an entertaining events program designed and curated by Vamvakou Revival, as part of the Vamvakou Revival initiative, realized thanks to an exclusive grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
Spring’s last month begins with a theater performance for children and ends with delicious and sweet-smelling culinary workshops! Theater group Mikros Notos visits Vamvakou to present “Ntenekedoupoli… once more! Melenios’s Great Journey” (4 May), a tender story about the journey towards adulthood based on the homonymous fairytale by Eugenia Fakinou, directed by Chryssa Diamantopoulou. The atmosphere will be charged with the smells of Vamvakou (31 May), as the members of the Vamvakou Women’s Cooperative will generously share their wisdom and knowledge of making traditional pasteli in a gastronomic workshop to be remembered. We will welcome summertime (1 June) with a Sunday brunch, delicious and easy recipes that will undoubtedly enthuse your taste buds.
Every month in Vamvakou, a curated events program brings visitors in touch with their childlike side through the joy of creating and discovering. This month, young and old alike will relax by crafting with their hands (3 May), and get acquainted with ‘macaroni’, the basic clay sculpting technique. On the occasion of Mother’s Day, the sacred bond between mothers and children will be strengthened through a music-kinetic activity inspired by Debi Gliori’s tale “I’ll always love you, no matter what…” (11 May). At the V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF), young chemists will discover the composition and qualities of water, making cool water experiments (17 May), while robotics will turn into an unexpectedly fun activity for families as they will be discovering STEAM. Clay play stories are back…with “Something Else” (24 May), multisensory play with natural clay and the homonymous story by Kathryn Cave that will make participants appreciate the beauty of diversity. The Different School (26 May), where all, irrespective of age, may play, get dirty, relax and make the most beautiful Sunday memories at the village school, could not be missing.
Every weekend, the program is complemented by unexpected explorations of the Vamvakou trails, organized hikes, mountain cycling, and relaxing massage sessions.
