Spring activities this April in Vamvakou, Lakonia!

Spring and April are blooming on the slopes of Mount Parnon in Lakonia and are inviting you to enjoy nature along with photography, folklore and music, environmental programmes and virtual reality, robotics and experiments, threatre play, messy and clay play, all realised within the framework of the initiative for the revival of the village of Vamvakou by Vamvakou Revival, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

Art, nature & tradition

Folklore, photography and music will set up a dance in Vamvakou over the first weekend of April (06 & 07/04). We will take photos of stories in the alleys of the village, experience and discover the place through its natural environment and history, the everyday life of its inhabitants and their traditions, while a distinct treasure hunt full of sounds, music, dance, songs and colours will be waiting for you in the village.

The environment around us

Through experiential play, children comprehend the life cycle of various insects and construct hotels to offer a safe home to the insects of the village (13/04). Then, we become little farmers (14/04) and get familiar with the daily tasks necessary in an organic vegetable garden, learn to use light tools, touch the earth and the soil and take care of seasonal cultivations.

STEAM set off for V.Lab on the mountains

Technology and the sciences are the specials this month too in V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF). What will take place is a robotics workshop for children aged 5 to 10 (20/04), where children will be faced with different problems ranging from simple challenges to advanced algorithmic approaches, as well as a science workshop (21/04), with eggs as the protagonists that will be floating, softening, expanding, shrinking, getting squeezed, examined from various angles to help the little experimenters approach the basic principles of science.

Nature, freedom, creativity & expression

The contact with nature and earth, as well as the connection with our selves are the main goals of the programme Clay Play Stories (27/04), while freedom, play and creativity mingle in the “Different School” (28/04). We will go through books from the library in the School of Vamvakou and collect images, stories, words for our own clay book, while we will play till we drop at the school of Vamvakou by choosing among various activities and games for all.
