What is the best way to experience winter in the mountains? Leave behind the fast pace of city life, immerse yourself in nature, and give in to play, creativity, and togetherness. January and the first days of February in Vamvakou, Laconia—nestled in the heart of Mount Parnon—bring a warm, multi-themed program of activities and events for all ages. The program combines educational initiatives, hands-on workshops, sports, technology labs, music-and-movement and artistic activities, as well as moments of relaxation.
All activities are part of the Vamvakou Revival Initiative, implemented with the exclusive support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

Children and adults alike are invited to play, learn, create, unwind, and reconnect with nature—and with one another.
At the Vamvakou School, play becomes a tool for learning: badminton rackets fly through the air, pencils capture scenes of the village, and visitors freely sketch what they see around them. Clay transforms into fairytale heroes, Aesop’s fables come to life through music and movement, and everyone rediscovers their inner child, allowing imagination and joy to take over in a truly “different kind of school.” At the same time, gastronomy takes on a family-oriented character with winter brunches that bring generations together around the same table.
Meanwhile, at V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab, fully powered by SNF), science meets tradition and technology. Participants experiment by creating traditional herbal balms or guiding robots on “snow missions,” turning chemistry and coding into playful, creative discovery.
For those seeking moments of relaxation, massage sessions at the Traditional Guesthouse offer rejuvenation and serenity with mountain views—perfect for a winter weekend away from the noise of the city.
And to complete the experience, simply put on your headphones and surrender to the Digital Cultural Route: by following notes on old stone walls and scanning QR codes on mirrored columns, the village reveals its own stories.
