In Vamvakou, October is the month of the walnut, thus natural clay and lots of walnuts await us at the village school! The game begins with sensory exploration of clay and continues with a collective creation: a walnut with a heart made of natural clay, decorated with elements found in nature. Let’s crack and eat walnuts, and make up imaginary stories about trees that love, talk, fly and swim!
Clay: A multisensory natural material, clay originates directly from the earth. Clay is one of nature’s earliest materials used by men and animals and the most environmentally friendly material as it both comes from and ends up in soil. At the same time, it does bear an element of magic. As easily as one could mould clay into an object, could the latter get damaged; yet one could always start over. Every month, through play, we unfold our stories and reconcile with our mistakes aiming to connect with nature, “here and now”, and with our true self, unburdened from expectations and “shoulds”.
