Alexandros Tsouvelas & aliens, embroidery & stargazing
From stitches that weave stories in an embroidery exhibition to an alien landing on stage in the form of Alexandros Tsouvelas, Vamvakou proves that summer in the mountains can be not only cool and refreshing, but also unexpected and seriously fun. Throughout July and August, the village embarks on a journey of play, music and creative freedom, as part of the Vamvakou Revival initiative, implemented by the non-profit organization Vamvakou Revival with the exclusive support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
July in Vamvakou: tonight, we improvise
The Impro Jazz Workshop brings the pulse of jazz to the mountains, with musicians improvising and creating live before meeting the audience for a special concert in the village square. And when night falls, the spotlight moves to Voureiko, where a DJ set, cocktails and the Parnon night sky come together for a summer evening with no set agenda.
In Vamvakou, however, improvisation is something children can discover too, through Playhouse. From the digital Vamva-world of V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab, fully powered by SNF) to crafts, books, games and creative corners, the village’s old school transforms into a place where everyone can try something new.
August in Vamvakou: waiting for Tsouvelas to “embroider” his way in
The month kicks off with the exhibition “Embroidery Stories by Eleni Valasaki”, presenting a world where every stitch holds a memory and every pattern tells a story.
At the heart of the month, the “embroidery” is taken over by Alexandros Tsouvelas, who lands at the village school with his stand-up comedy show “Alien – The Return” — a journey filled with prose, improvisation and punchlines beamed straight from Planet Tsouvi.
At the same time, the surrounding nature invites visitors to explore the Parnon through e-bike cycling routes and family-friendly hikes along the trails around Vamvakou.
And just before summer draws to a close, Voureiko transforms into the village’s most atmospheric spot, where stargazing gives way to music, cocktails and a laid-back atmosphere beneath the starry sky.
Whether you are looking for aliens in the sky or encounter them on stage, one thing is certain: you will leave Vamvakou with an unforgettable summer experience!
