Vamvakou Summer Camp 2025

For a fifth consecutive year, Vamvakou Revival invites children aged 6-12 years old to take part in the Vamvakou Summer Camp, scheduled to take place from June 16 to June 27, 2025, in the village of Vamvakou, Lakonia, as part of the Vamvakou Revival initiative, implemented by Vamvakou Revival thanks to an exclusive grant by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

This year’s events program is structured across the pillars of sports, contact with nature and the environment, STEAM, archaeology, folklore, and the arts. It will run for two weeks and is addressed to 100 elementary school students residing in Sparta, the wider region of Mount Parnon and Lakonia. It is a five-hour daily program that includes popular sports, dance, motor skills activities, group and orientation games, educational programs, STEAM activities, and art workshops—all perfectly linking entertainment with practical knowledge.

What' s for this year’s program?

This year’s program is based on great new and existing partnerships, as well as on activities designed to enrich the experience of children while shaping unique summer memories! ΑTTHICF – The Athens International Children’s Film Festival will be part of the summer camp, touching upon sensitive notions such as love and discussing Bullying at School and Accepting Difference, through film screenings.

For the first time, part of the program will be both the activities designed by the Goulandris National Natural History Museum, transforming children into young trackers, and activities by the Bee Camp, which will fill the village with seed-bombs, highlighting the role of the tireless bees.

In addition, we will be cooperating with the Sparta Central Public Library and will reveal to children new challenges and robotics tests, but also the countless options that 3D Printing offers to today’s life, at the V.Lab (Vamvakou Technology Lab fully powered by SNF). Children will find out about life in the village and the folklore, discovering what’s hidden in grandma’s apron.

Treasure hunt, games inspired by the kinesiology of animals and the mythical heroes of ancient times will liven up the forest! Children will travel to the palace of mythical Menelaus, the king of Sparta, and the secrets of the life of the ancient Mycenaeans, with the aid of the science of archaeology. This year, young participants will experiment with sound, will explore its qualities, and embark on a magical and “musical” pirate boat.

Dance will be at the core of our activities. Children will practice at coordinating different parts of their body and their movement flow by dancing and improvising under hip hop and R’n’B rhythms. Lastly, the art of theatre could not be missing! Children will participate in interactive performances, featuring experiential-learning narrative techniques, music and theatre games by Maria Terzaki.
