October for Tough Nuts in Vamvakou, with Events That Really Crack Them Open!

A clever fruit that keeps its secrets well hidden. A village that knows how to use its mind creatively. Walnuts and Vamvakou are holding a summit this October, through original activities organized under the Vamvakou Revival initiative, made possible by the exclusive donation of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

But Vamvakou doesn’t fit inside a single walnut. October has room for so much more:

A journey into the world of emotions and emotional resilience with Marios Mazaris (Schoolmarius), author of educational and theatrical books for children, in collaboration with Metaichmio Publications. Two experiential programs full of creative activities and play, for children and adults, parents and educators who want to get to know the “hidden” life of their inner world a little better.

A Halloween workshop with soy candles, pumpkins, ghosts and bats; a school that becomes “For Everyone” (Tis Paréas) with play, creativity, technology and space for all; and an evening of folk and rebetiko songs to start the autumn the way it deserves.

A treasure hunt among the village’s walnut trees, and a school full of soil, mud, clay, walnuts and “dirty” play. The sharing of the local walnut pie recipe passed down from generation to generation, and a Laconian lyra made from walnut wood, which has its own local story to tell and offers a lovely excuse for a celebration.

And for those who prefer to take the road to nature, Vamvakou’s trails are there. On foot, by e-bike or with a mountain guide, Parnon will always be waiting.
