Have you experienced the hidden beauties and unexplored trails of Lakonian Mount Parnon? Do you feel excited when doing sports and running among fir and high pine tree clusters? What about reaching the mountain peak, Megali Tourla? Are you maybe already preparing for a big-scale mountain running race and are looking for a training opportunity? If so, save the date for Sunday, 15 June 2025, and join the Vamvakou Mountain Run! The popular mountain running race is back for the fifth consecutive year in the beautiful village of Vamvakou, Lakonia, in the heart of Mount Parnon, organized by non-profit Vamvakou Revival as part of the village revival initiative, thanks to the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
The individuals interested are invited to register here. A symbolic participation fee applies and there is an official electronic timing, so that all runners know their performance. Τhe three routes have also been included in the ITRA (International Trail Running Association), and you can find them on the calendar of the website by clicking here. Now, by running on the trails of Vamvakou and in the 5th Vamvakou Mountain Run, your performance can count towards your ITRA Performance Index. This performance measurement index is one of the most recognized methods internationally for enhancing your athletic value and pursuing personal goals as an athlete.
All runners will receive a commemorative participation medal, while there will also be awards for best performance. At 13:30, the closing ceremony and medal presentation for the 7 km race will take place. At 14:30, the closing ceremony and medal presentation for the 19 km race will follow. At 16:00, the closing ceremony and medal presentation for the 29 km race will be held. In addition to the awards, this year we collaborate with the Greek company Ena Athletics, to give away 4 pairs of high-performance running shoes, designed to meet the demands of the most challenging conditions.
Awards
During the closing ceremony, medals will be awarded to the first 3 winners of the general rank for both Men and Women, to all races (29km, 19km και 7km respectively). Moreover, the first three winners from age group 18-39, 40-59, 60+ will also be awarded. From these awards, participants who have already received an award will be excluded from the general rank.
