Lakonian Lyra | Where the walnut tree becomes a song

Lakonian Lyra | Where the walnut tree becomes a song

Voureiko

There are stories hidden within wood, passed from hand to hand and carried from generation to generation through sound. On Saturday 17 October, at 20:30, at Voureiko restaurant, Giannis Tsoulogiannis opens a window onto the past. An evening dedicated to the Lakonian lyra, walnut as a raw material, the place and the people who continue to keep the flame of creativity alive. The presence of the lyra in the region is already documented in the magazine Malevos in 1925, confirming that the sounds of tradition have not been lost. They continue to exist, telling us stories and shedding light on a distinctive aspect of the region’s musical heritage. And when the stories come to an end, the strings will take over, as the evening continues with a traditional glenti [feast].
