Waves in Light: Reflection & Refraction

School

Light does not always travel in a straight line! When it stumbles on mirrors, it reflects; when it passes from air to water, it refracts. Through fun experiments with mirrors, lenses and filters, participants explore the wave nature of light, observe the path of a light beam, and see how these changes depending on its color (wavelength), angle of incidence, and the material it passes through. Let’s create together a maze of mirrors to guide a laser to the target and experiment with lenses, observing refraction and discovering polarization and the effect of color on the passage of light.

Objective: To understand the phenomena of reflection, refraction and polarization through experiential play and collaboration – just like telescopes, optical fibers and lasers!
