5th Vamvakou Mountain Run – 06/15/2025

Mountain running race through the Parnon trails

Have you experienced the hidden beauties and unexplored trails of Lakonian Mount Parnon? Do you feel excited when doing sports and running among fir and high pine tree clusters? What about reaching the mountain peak, Megali Tourla? Are you maybe already preparing for a big-scale mountain running race and are looking for a training opportunity? If so, save the date for Sunday, 15 June 2025, and join the Vamvakou Mountain Run! The popular mountain running race is back for the fifth consecutive year in the beautiful village of Vamvakou, Laconia, in the heart of Mount Parnon, organized by non-profit Vamvakou Revival as part of the village revival initiative, thanks to the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).

Three routes (29, 19 and 7 km), combining challenge, natural beauty and a welcoming village, suitable for both experienced athletes and amateur runners, are available for you to choose. All routes pass through gorges, forest paths and hiking trails, starting at an altitude of 950 meters, at the village square, and reaching, at almost 1900 meters, the mountain peak on the 29km route, in an idyllic mountainous scenery with endless landscape variations! Last summer, 500 runners from the Peloponnese and Athens as well, arrived with friends and family at Vamvakou, filling the village with smiles, voices, enthusiastic applause and running vibes!

Ioannis Dimopoulos, runner and coach, supervises the organization of the race. All runners may access their performance metrics through an official electronic timing system. Every participant will receive a commemorative medal, while the best performances will be awarded. This event aims to promote the natural wealth of the wider region and encourage participation in activities and events in nature, with visitors taking the opportunity to explore the lush greenery across the trails of Mount Parnon and live the Vamvakou experience.

Keeping the legacy of the previous running events, Vamvakou Mountain Run 2025, the unique mountain running race taking place on Mount Parnon and the favorite destination of Vamvakou await you this year, too!
